FLOWing….Little Details

I believe that in each little thing created by God, there is more than what is understood, even if it is a little ant.   ~~Teresa of Avila

As a little girl in the Summer, I use to play with bugs. I was the little girl with the jar catching grasshoppers, ants, spiders, praying mantises, etc…I got out the family encyclopedias and would look up information on different kinds of bugs, and would memorize the little details (things that not everyone would know). Things that stood out to me. Of course, my brothers always thought I was insane for doing anything remotely like schoolwork during the Summer months. However, they had no choice but to learn too….I’m the big sister and you did what I said. Lol!!

When I read the above noted quote, it made me think back on my curiosity with bugs and wanting to find out more about them and what made them “tick”. I wanted to know more than just the surface stuff we learn in school. I knew there had to be more to these bugs than I could see with the naked eye. Some instinctually know when to start storing food for the Winter (the ant). The digestion process for others started outside the body (the grasshopper). Some used their mates as nutrients for their unborn by killing and eating them after conception (black widow spider and the praying mantis).

God designed them the way they are and every little thing about them (their behavior, their instincts, their purpose) is in Divine Order.

So, looking at me and you….and all the intricate, little details about us (our gifts and talents, our backgrounds, our testimonies, etc…). why is it so hard for us to understand that we’re more than just “surface” people. Haven’t you heard the saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”? Well, I believe that wholeheartedly. I don’t believe in “first impressions” being the complete portrait to any person’s identity. We’re too complex for that, and  there’s just too much below the surface; too many “little details”.

I say all of that to say this….

Remember, there are some “little details” that you’ll never get to if you’re judgmental and dismissive. Don’t count people out around you. They’re more than one encounter (their appearance, one statement, or one act). Take time to get to know the “little details”.
