Did He Just Say That???

Hey FLOW!

Have you ever said to yourself or out-loud, “I can’t believe he said that”.

I was talking with someone and they were shocked about what her soon-after ex said to her in regards to the status of the relationship.

She was enjoying his company and conversation and thought things were progressing at a great pace. They had been courting (dating, hanging out, etc…) for about 6 months and she thought (because of the amount of time they were spending together) that they were exclusively seeing one another.

Well, when she took the conversation up a notch and started asking questions about the length of time he thought would be appropriate to start talking more long term or permanent…you know….marriage.

He look at her with a surprise expression and said, “I haven’t even defined you as a girlfriend yet. You’re moving waaaay too fast.”

Whoa! Have you been there ladies? Have you thought a relationship was more than what it was and was ready to either crawl under a rock from embarrassment or mad enough to scream? Yea, it happens.

So, I told her the things I do when being pursued (or seemingly pursued) by an individual. Keep in mind, there are still guys out here with agendas. So, for some cases this will not be applicable.

  • In your initial getting to know him conversations, make sure you let him know you date with purpose. Otherwise, what’s the point. If you’re young and don’t know what your “checklist ‘yes’” looks like yet, you shouldn’t be dating. You need to go out in groups as friends.
  • The instant you have “caught feelings” and know you want more than just a friendship and think there could be something long term, you need to voice it. Not in a desperate way…you know what I’m talking about. Some women will show up at a man’s door with the dress on and think they’re dropping a hint. Just let him know you’re really enjoying his company, would want to spend more time, and was wondering how he felt about you.
  • Call me old-fashioned, but I believe in the chase. Not you chasing him, but him chasing you. I believe in the beginning, you should do the whole song and dance. Watch the animal kingdom and all the things males have to do to show they’re the best candidate. I think women have just lost the concept of knowing they are the “good thing” to be found.

Let me know in the comments whether you agree or disagree. I’d love to know your thoughts 😉
