Hey FLOW!
I use to think that being a Christian meant I had to freely give my heart to everybody I encountered. I was the “Kumbaya” person (“Can’t we just all love one another and get along?”)
Of course, life will teach you quickly to rethink some things.
If you’re a giver and you a “Kumbaya” person, please understand that there’s nothing wrong with wanting to connect, love and get along with everyone. After all, we’re told in the Bible to do everything within our power to do so. The problem with this way of thinking is you’ll get hurt…A LOT…if you don’t get selective and guard your heart when it comes to extending yourself.
Guarding your heart doesn’t mean put up walls and not allow anyone to get close. It just means we have to use something called DISCERNMENT. The one thing I taught my natural children and “adopted” children is to believe people the first time when they reveal to you who they are. Keeping this mind will save you a lot of heartache and a lot less soul ties to cut (that’s for another post 😉).
