I often hear people in their frustration say, “I can’t believe they said/did that!” When in fact, this statement is false. The person is doing/saying exactly what is expected. But, somehow we’ve decided to believe there will be a different outcome THIS time.
I was once told by a wise person (my grandmother) that we set ourselves up for disappointment when we look for people to be who they aren’t.
Are you opening yourself up for disappointment believing the unrealistic? Or, are you accepting people right where they are and dealing with them accordingly? If you do the latter, you’ll find life isn’t as stressful as you’ve been making it.
