Mindset Matters

I use to think I could just stay busy enough to ignore the emotional turmoil I was experiencing. I thought it was enough.

The fact is, just continuing to move until you pass out each day is not answer to getting through or over life situations. I learned the hard way what it was like to carry the burdens of my past while trying to appear to be productive and sane.

Then, one day I took a look in the mirror, and didn’t like what I saw. I physically looked tired and beat up, I had visibly aged, and the resting expression on my face was one of sadness and disappointment. I knew then that I had to do something, and fast.

The root of me feeling downcast had to do with “stuff” I had been carrying for years (some weights I put on myself and some weights others put on me).

The first thing I had to do was change my thinking. I could no longer focus on the things that didn’t serve me.

The second thing I had to do was change my audience. I could no longer be in the presence of those who supported the old way of thinking.

Lastly, I had to carry myself in a way that supported the new me. That meant I had to talk positively even when negative crept to the surface. I had to think positively even when my mind wanted to wander or focus on the negative.

When I consistently and consciously changed my mind, I saw and lived life totally different….because mindset matters.
